...good or bad?, your opinions..
So yes, I know that I am blogging on an issue that has been brought about in many of my fellow classmates blogs, but I have to say that this topic really intrigues me. April 4 - 8 is Hofstra University's School of Communication's "Week without the web."
My opinion....great, but impossible! I have to admit, nothing sounds better than a week of no one bothering me, no e-mails about future assignments, no texts about "important" things (haha) and most of all no boss bothering you to call a client at 9pm when you just finished eating dinner after a long day of work....Lets be honest though, is this really feasible? We surround our lives in social media, and instant contact 24/7, even to the point where most of us leave our phones next to us in bed.
Many of us say we love the idea, and we'll try to make this work to the best of our ability, but truth is, (to the people that can really make this work) when the week is over, how many of you are going to be happy to have "your life" back?.....
Think about it. Our lives are so comfortable the way they are, and many people are terrible with change, so would you really enjoy this, or is it just a getaway from school for the week?
Ive said it in class. I dont care for the internet as much as most of my friends do. I like to use it for the news because of teh variety and for sports scores cause i always miss the game. I dont welcome week without the wen because i dont need to roganize a week in my lfie to go webless. It makes it sound like people have an addiction and this is the week everyone decides to go sober. I think people NEED to try this week out for the sake of their own humanity/sanity.
ReplyDeleteNow that it actually is the week without the web, I do have to say that while I do see people trying to make this work, there hasn't been much success. Even in one of my PR classes, we failed within the first 10 minutes because we needed to use the internet to look at something for class.
ReplyDeleteEven more ironic, one of my classmates showed us her interview on PIX 11, where she was talking about Hofstra's week without the web....except she had to use the web in order for us to see the interview.
